Position Description: Morgan Stanley Investment Management's Alternative Investment Partners consists of two parts - the Hedge Fund of Hedge Fund group and the Private Equity Fund of Funds group. The Private Equity Fund of Funds group identifies, evaluates, executes and monitors investments primarily in 3rd party funds pursuing private markets strategies on a global basis. In addition, approximately 25% of the group's investments are in direct transactions (“co-investments”) or secondary purchases of limited partnership interests. Private markets strategies considered include buyouts, venture capital, growth capital, mezzanine, distressed debt, secondaries, special situations and opportunistic real estate.
In general, the Private Equity Fund of Funds Secondaries Associate will be actively involved in both the research and analytical phases of the Secondary investment program. The successful candidate will also play a role in the marketing and client reporting aspects of the business. The Secondaries Associate will report to the lead Secondaries Portfolio Manager on the Private Markets Team. This position is located in Morgan Stanley Investment Management's West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania office.
Responsibilites Investment Support: • Conduct secondary deal research to help identify and assess promising investment opportunities. • Create and execute various analyses to support the secondary investment process. This will include both quantitative and qualitative evaluations. • Support the maintenance of databases designed to assess and monitor the health of individual secondary investments and overall secondary portfolios.
Business Support: • Support the client reporting process by collecting, evaluating and packaging relevant information as requested. • Support the marketing process by collecting, evaluating and packaging relevant information as requested.
Skills Required: • Applicants MUST have a minimum of two to four years experience in relevant Private Markets investment-related areas. Direct secondary experience desired. • Minimum Bachelors degree and MBA (or related Masters) • Ability and willingness to travel globally. Position will require approximately 25% travel. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an unstructured and team-oriented environment. • Excellent analytical skills and experience with financial modeling. • Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing. • Self-motivated with good interpersonal skills.
