Our clinet is the insurance arm of a large Canadian bank and provides a wide range of products and services (travel, out-of-country medical assistance, life, health, creditor, home, auto and reinsurance) to more than three million customers across North America.
Reinsurance Overview
Although the Bank’s Reinsurance Operations have historically focused on reinsuring the Bank’s creditor insurance business, it provides Life, Annuity, Creditor Life and Trade Credit Reinsurance to the international Reinsurance market. Our client’s Reinsurance Operations has considerable strengths in marketing and technical expertise for Life, Creditor Life, Annuity and Trade Credit Reinsurance.
It offers retrocession capacity and reinsurance solutions to international reinsurance markets, mainly in Europe and North America. This vacancy relates to our Life reinsurance, Annuity and retrocession business.
Position Summary
Position Description • Support the Life retrocession and Annuity business originating from European markets through actuarial analysis of existing and new business. This includes mortality, disability and annuity business • Support the Compliance function on monitoring solvency requirements, financial reporting and regulatory filings (external: Financial Regulator and internal: Broader Financial Group)
Reporting Structure • Reports to the Head of Life Reinsurance in Canada (for Life and Annuity business) and to the Managing Director of the Irish business (for Compliance and all other functions).
Key Result Areas
The successful candidate will be supporting the Company in a wide range of client related issues such as new product design and development, pricing, negotiating treaty terms and managing of in-force business. The candidate will be required to assist the Head, Life Reinsurance in successfully managing existing European client relationships and in seeking opportunities to further develop these relationships.
Responsibilities
• To develop and price products & negotiate treaties for clients ensuring all risks are understood and evaluated. This will require close team-working with the actuarial pricing function in North America • To ensure minimum profitability requirements are met, agreed risk management practices adhered to and ongoing profitability of the portfolio is monitored and managed • Maintaining existing client relationships and develop new relationships in Europe • To maintain awareness of the external market and industry developments in Europe, taking action to position the firm and its clients appropriately • Analyse the existing Life portfolio (new and in-force Life, disability and annuity business) • To work effectively as part of a team and to build and maintain networks with clients and other professional bodies in order to develop and manage the business and service client needs effectively • Assist in all aspects of the compliance function: ? External: Reporting and submissions to the Irish Financial Regulator ? Internal: Group reporting and reporting to the Managing Director and the Board of Directors • Participate in projects as required by be the business.
Requirements
• University Degree • Life Actuary (fully qualified FIA or equivalent) • 3+ years in Life (re)insurance (senior underwriting or equivalent) • European languages would be a plus
