We are looking for a Research Analyst (Vice President level) that will report directly to the Deputy Director of ARS Investment Research.

Description

Overall accountability will include the following:

· Due Diligence: Comprehensive due diligence will be undertaken on each hedge fund investment opportunity being given serious consideration. He/She will spend considerable time in this area. Responsibilities will include analyzing and assimilating data from hedge fund managers including biographies, financing data, legal documents and marketing materials; monitoring industry publications for pertinent information; conducting interviews with new and existing hedge fund managers, including those where BlackRock has an outstanding allocation; and working with the Risk Management team in evaluating portfolios and metrics provided by invested managers.

· Analysis of capital markets: In addition to evaluation of hedge fund managers, emphasis is placed on understanding the capital markets in which the hedge funds operate. He/she will be expected to remain abreast of noteworthy events within those markets most impacting his/her respective manager relationships. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining professional network contacts, identifying and evaluating news articles and investment banking reports for pertinent information, and providing the Research team with timely and insightful data points.

· Maintenance of information systems: The firm places heavy emphasis on maintaining a state-of-the-art database, in order to capture the universe of available investment opportunities. He/She will be involved with the maintenance of ARS’ database, ensuring that all relevant hedge fund data is captured on a consistent basis. The database will serve as a meaningful tool in the evaluation of hedge fund investment opportunities.

· Other responsibilities as required.

Requirements

The successful candidate(s) should possess strong independent learning skills, a knowledge of capital markets, be comfortable with business mathematics, and possess a desire to learn about sophisticated financial instruments and strategies. First hand experience trading, structuring or analyzing structured products and/or derivatives is a plus. Familiarity with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is a must; some familiarity with databases would be a bonus. We are looking for candidate(s) with a slate of experience ranging from five to eight-plus years of experience (preferably in a capital markets related environment), a four-year college degree is required, with Finance, Mathematics/Statistics or Economics degrees preferred. Good communication, interpersonal skills, and professional networking skills are also preferred. Location: New York or Seattle.

The successful candidate(s) will also possess the following:

· Completion of or a desire to complete the CFA program.

· The ability to work with individuals at all levels in the organization and contribute to the strategic direction of the firm.

· Capacity to keep the strategic vision of a company in sight while paying attention to the details of day-to-day operations.
